We have a winner!

I'm back. Sort of. Wading into the cold blog waters one toe at a time.

We have moved. We have unpacked a lot of boxes. (The books, mostly.) We are far, far from settled.

Thank you to crew at ARS Technica who came over and made the move an ARS meet. Also a big thanks to my buddies Mac and Tom from work.  More on everything I hope later today but for now, we have a book box contest winner!

Jody guessed 236 and the final book box count was 232.

Jody, send me a mailing address and I'll send you a copy of either Hugging the Rock or Oliver's Must-do List.

And a thanks to kellyrfineman for the LJ nudge to post. Sorry it still took me a week to get here.

Let's have a contest, between me and you, and I bet even though I moved first you will be settled first!

I figured you were buried in late-winter nasty weather in addition to the moving.

Glad you're back.

California weather rarely gets nasty.

I'm just buried in icky, stinky I can't and don't want to learn how to cope stuff. Dig a hole and crawl in and hide for a while. I'm guessing you know just what I mean. ;-)

And tell me who to sign it too. I even know where the books are in the as yet unsettled house. Aren't you impressed? :-)

Welcome back Susan!!!

How's that beautiful office of yours?
March 23rd, 2007 02:50 pm (UTC)
Thanks! That office of mine is far from beautiful and mostly frustrating. There are no walls. Which means arranging things is insane. One wall, French doors from the living room. Another wall, French doors from the library. Another wall, two patio doors to outside. The last wall, a small window and then, taking up a lot of the floor space, is a room AC, like the kind you find in a hotel. My desks are in the middle of the room. I used to store a TON of stuff in my old office but now most of my file cabinets are in the garage and everything else is on the floor in the room looking for a home. Sigh. Pics later today so maybe y'all can help me.

It's okay that it took a week -- I'm just glad the move went well and you're okay.

While you were out, I saw Hugging the Rock on a recent VOYA list -- congrats!!

Thanks, Kelly. The move went well. I've been close to the breaking point several time since then. And today, if they finally don't figure out how to make the dryer work, I will really lose it. And it won't be pretty.

Who am I?I was born on the Cancer/Leo cusp and share a birthday with Ernest Hemingway and Robin Williams. The similarities don't stop there as I can go from depressed to ecstatic without ever passing go. I feel scared most of the time though my friends call me brave and I find it easier to believe in my friends than to believe in my own abilities to make what I want out of my life.

Who am I? A wife, a mother, a daughter, and even, gulp, a grandmother.

Who am I? A writer who never gets tired of playing with words, even when the words are hard to find. A writer of books for children and articles for grown-ups and many things in-between.

Who am I? A motivational speaker, writing instructor, workshop leader and full-time follower of dreams.

Who am I? Read and find out.

"Successful writers are not the ones who write the best sentences. They are the ones who keep writing. They are the ones who discover what is most important and strangest and most pleasurable in themselves, and keep believing in the value of their work, despite the difficulties."
--Bonnie Friedman

"As writers, we must be willing to feel our sadness, our anger, our terror, so we can reach in and find our sweet vulnerability that is just sitting there waiting for us to come back home."
--Nancy Slonim Aronie

"Writers write about what obsesses them. You draw those cards. I lost my mother when I was 14. My daughter died at the age of 6. I lost my faith as a Catholic. When I'm writing, the darkness is always there. I go where the pain is."
--Anne Rice
