Five on Friday - a really random edition

1. I've scheduled two more classes in social media for authors. Info can be found here: http://susantaylorbrown.com/classes.html I'd love it if you could help me get the word out by posting it to other lists you might be on. Or the BlueBoard if you post there. Please?

2.Twitter is mad at me. Well part of it anyway. Regular tweets are just fine and I can post and use a hashtag but it makes me invisible in chats. Anything I post with a # shows up in the timelines of people who follow me but not in chats or search. Which sorta defeats the purpose of the hastag for me. Very frustrating.

3. A pair of finches have decided to make a nest in our yard which is wonderful except that they decided to build it in the roll-up blind right outside  my office. As in directly above the patio door. And when I say directly I mean if I were any taller I'd bump my head on it. That would be the patio door that I open about 100 times a day for the dog. Which is the only way to the backyard.

4. We have a whole house fan up in the attic that we can turn on and with all the windows open in the house it does a pretty good job of cooling the upstairs so we don't have to run the AC as long. (Yes, I run it a lot. I am a hot weather wimp!) Since we have owned this house (all of two years) it has broken three times. Each time we call the home warranty people and they send someone to fix it. It stopped working the other day. Again. Well it would turn on but was stuck on medium speed and the vents wouldn't open which really mean it was broken. So I filed a help ticket and of course then it started working again.

5. I can't believe I missed poetry Friday again.

1. I would love to take your class but am holding off and hoping you'll continue with them for awhile. We're still on dial-up (!) here, so even the two sites I have are hard for me to keep up with.

3. Oh no, but I had to smile about the finches. One has to wonder what they were thinking to pick that spot.

4. Isn't that always the way? :)

Five For Friday
1. So I went to the "French Market" on First Street in Benicia this morning with a friend I haven't seen in years, thinking it would be (like the flier said) very French--French food, french wares, French atmosphere--all of the she-she foo-foo regalia. ....NOPE. It was maybe half the size of the regular Farmer's Market that comes on Thursdays. And why were they selling Quesadillas and "French Vanilla" ice cream? And what the hell is "Ice Candy"? Is that what the "exact" translation of "Snow Cone" in French comes out to be? And why were they selling it in a container used for Chinese Take-out?

2. I am so excited about my birthday! It's on Tuesday! I'm going to get an ice cream cake from Baskin-Robins or Cold Stone Creamery.

3. Kizzy is chasing her tail. God I love my cat. She's soooooo damn cuuuuuuute!!!!

4. I might get to see my significant other sometime this coming week!!

5. Had high tea at the Camellia Tea Room this afternoon. Also bought a really neat vintage nightgown at Discover Yesterdays.

Who am I?I was born on the Cancer/Leo cusp and share a birthday with Ernest Hemingway and Robin Williams. The similarities don't stop there as I can go from depressed to ecstatic without ever passing go. I feel scared most of the time though my friends call me brave and I find it easier to believe in my friends than to believe in my own abilities to make what I want out of my life.

Who am I? A wife, a mother, a daughter, and even, gulp, a grandmother.

Who am I? A writer who never gets tired of playing with words, even when the words are hard to find. A writer of books for children and articles for grown-ups and many things in-between.

Who am I? A motivational speaker, writing instructor, workshop leader and full-time follower of dreams.

Who am I? Read and find out.

"Successful writers are not the ones who write the best sentences. They are the ones who keep writing. They are the ones who discover what is most important and strangest and most pleasurable in themselves, and keep believing in the value of their work, despite the difficulties."
--Bonnie Friedman

"As writers, we must be willing to feel our sadness, our anger, our terror, so we can reach in and find our sweet vulnerability that is just sitting there waiting for us to come back home."
--Nancy Slonim Aronie

"Writers write about what obsesses them. You draw those cards. I lost my mother when I was 14. My daughter died at the age of 6. I lost my faith as a Catholic. When I'm writing, the darkness is always there. I go where the pain is."
--Anne Rice
