How many birds can fit on a bubbling rock?

I heard a lot of bird chatter out back late this afternoon and went to the window to see if any birds were playing in the water. I took these pictures through the window (gonna have to wash them soon if this keeps up.)  Across about 10 minutes I took over 100 pictures. I kept waiting, wondering how many birds would land on the rock at the same time.

Poor lonely bubbling rock. Maybe some birds will come to visit soon.

I actually think there might have been more than eight on there at one time but I was so memorized watching them swoop in, race off, and swoop back that I forgot to grab the camera right away.

This is so funny! I love the bird hanging on the ragged edge of yonder in the last photo.

Me too! It was so fun to look at the photos after I shot them because while it was going on, I had the camera lowered (not looking through it) and my glasses off, so I had no idea what I was getting pictures of.

Thanks, Terri! They did seem to have a blast. I think I can count on it being a regular occurrence now as the finches are pretty reliable. When we used to put seed out I could almost set the clock by when they would come by. (No need for seed now since there are so many plants for them to feast on.)

I can't wait until I get the other water feature done in the backyard. They'll have two, plus the birdbath, plus the dirt bath bowl. (they line up for their turns in there.)

I need to get a picture of the doves using the lower part of the water feature next.

This makes me smile, Susan. Thank you for sharing your bubbling rock and bird friends with us. I especially liked the photos with the wet, ruffled head feathers.

Thanks, Tracy. I did think of you when I was watching the birds. I like seeing them all ruffled and wet too. I need to wash that window and then I should be able to get some fun shots of them in the tree that is right in front of the window.

It was so funny, too, watching them almost sit on top of the water coming out of the top. Those finches are fearless!

Yay, you're welcome and thank you! It was so much fun to watch them acting like little kids at a water park. And as soon as thing calm down around here I'm going to try and make a longer video of the water feature for our meditation purposes. :)

WHO AM I?

Who am I?I was born on the Cancer/Leo cusp and share a birthday with Ernest Hemingway and Robin Williams. The similarities don't stop there as I can go from depressed to ecstatic without ever passing go. I feel scared most of the time though my friends call me brave and I find it easier to believe in my friends than to believe in my own abilities to make what I want out of my life.

Who am I? A wife, a mother, a daughter, and even, gulp, a grandmother.

Who am I? A writer who never gets tired of playing with words, even when the words are hard to find. A writer of books for children and articles for grown-ups and many things in-between.

Who am I? A motivational speaker, writing instructor, workshop leader and full-time follower of dreams.

Who am I? Read and find out.

"Successful writers are not the ones who write the best sentences. They are the ones who keep writing. They are the ones who discover what is most important and strangest and most pleasurable in themselves, and keep believing in the value of their work, despite the difficulties."
--Bonnie Friedman

"As writers, we must be willing to feel our sadness, our anger, our terror, so we can reach in and find our sweet vulnerability that is just sitting there waiting for us to come back home."
--Nancy Slonim Aronie

"Writers write about what obsesses them. You draw those cards. I lost my mother when I was 14. My daughter died at the age of 6. I lost my faith as a Catholic. When I'm writing, the darkness is always there. I go where the pain is."
--Anne Rice
